Iida will be making her debut at the renowned concert hall in Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. She will be singing the roles of Una strega and Marta in a concert performance of Fausto, an opera by Louise Bertin (1805-1877). The concert is part of NTR Zaterdagmatinee series and it will be broadcasted live on NPO Klassiek.
Louise Bertin was the daughter of Louis Bertin, the editor of Journal des débats, an influential newspaper in Paris. Louise was physically disabled from birth and had to use crutches throughout her life, but her family encouraged her to pursue music.
Louise showed talent in painting and poetry, publishing several poetry collections as well, but focused primarily on music. She studied voice and composing with great teachers such as François-Joseph Fétis and Anton Reicha and was highly regarded as a composer even by her extremely critical fellow student Hector Berlioz. Louise also worked closely with her friend Victor Hugo, who provided the libretto for her final opera Esmeralda, based on his book Notre-Dame de Paris.
